The mouse parathyroid gland typically exhibits one lobe, but multiple lobes have been described. The position of the parathyroid gland may vary, but it is commonly located between the two thyroid lobes in the dorsal region of the thyroid gland. The parathyroid parenchyma contains interconnected cords of polygonal cells, chief cells, and many blood vessels.
The 4X and 10X micrographs show the parathyroid gland embedded between the lobes of the thyroid gland. The 20X and 40X micrographs display the parathyroid gland in increasing detail. The 40X micrograph shows the chief cells present in the parathyroid parenchyma.
